Sodexo - Warm Hearth Village
November 2012 - January 2015
As a Clinical Dietitian for Sodexo, I have had the pleasure of serving Warm Hearth Village in Blacksburg, VA, a continuing care retirement community that serves approximately 500 older adults. My main responsibilities are to work with skilled nursing, assisted living and long-term care residents to maintain their overall dietary quality of life. Service Impact
Sodexo CARES Award Nomination, June 2014:
"Kristen is much more than our dietitian at Warm Hearth Village for she has taken on the "Chef Center Stage" program and resident attendance continues to grow. In May we had an astonishing 23 residents (the most ever at Kroontje) attend to see what Kristen was going to make. She also takes this opportunity to educate our residents on proper nutrition, health, and wellness. While conducting meal rounds, residents always ask, “What is Kristen making for us this time?” Thank you, Kristen, for going above and beyond to make our residents' day a better day!"

Sodexo CARES Award Nomination, February 2014:
"Kristen has been a part of our management team for a little over a year now. This is the first account that she has been assigned to after finishing school and her internship. After a short settling-in period, she quickly began taking on many other areas that are above and beyond the normal daily duties of a dietitian. Not only does she do an exceptional job as a clinical dietician, she continually pushes further in helping others. She is passionate about educating people regarding nutrition and well-being and she creates many opportunities to do just that. She keeps a full schedule to include Chef Stage Center/Splash Demonstration monthly, Food for Fuel Series monthly, and she consistently hosts at least two Virginia Tech dietetics student interns. She contributes a monthly nutritional article to The Log, our community news publication. She plays an active role in the Southwest Virginia Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Association. She also has committed to assisting in our Sustainability Living Fair in early May and assisting with hosting the spring/summer farmer's market. Kristen spends a lot of time with our residents liberalizing their diets in order to improve their quality of life. She is always willing to counsel fellow employees with advice on their own nutrition and wellness, as well. Kristen takes an extremely active role as our registered dietitian and spends a lot of her time making "every day a better day" for our residents and employees. She is a glowing example of the Sodexo Value we offer our clients!

Food is Fuel Lecture Series
I strongly believe in giving back to the community and the importance of nutrition education outreach in empowering others. I have had the opportunity to make this a reality at Warm Hearth Village by initiating the monthly nutrition seminar series "Food is Fuel." The series is geared towards independent living residents with the primary goal of enhancing nutritional quality of life, prevention and management of chronic disease, increased intake of whole foods, especially local produce obtained through the village farmer's market held weekly throughout the summer months.
