AboutI am a native of Virginia Beach, VA who attended college at Virginia Tech and simply fell in love with the mountains. I am please to now call Blacksburg, VA my permanent home, where I reside with my husband, Jordan and dog, Kenya. As a Virginia Tech graduate (Go Hokies!), I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise (Dietetics) and went on to obtain my Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise (Nutrition and Nutrition Education and Behavior). I completed my dietetic internship through the Virginia Tech Northern Virginia program before becoming credentialed as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) in July 2012.
As a dietitian, my main goal is to empower individuals and groups through nutrition education and programming to attain a higher level of nutritional quality of life. I live by the philosophy that food is a form of nourishment and life, and progress is about meeting people where they are now and promoting sustainable lifestyle changes rather than setting unrealistic expectations of attaining that non-existent "perfect" diet. I've been told I have an eye for innovation, often initiating new ideas and programs in each of my ambitions while continuously seeking professional growth and new learning experiences. I believe in the importance being involved in my profession and am a proud and dedicated member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics as well as its Virginia and Southwest Virginia sub-chapters. In my current position as a Clinical Dietitian for Sodexo, I particularly enjoy working with seniors and can often be found mentoring students, dietetic interns and front line employees. Currently, I am also teaching Medical Nutrition Therapy to senior level dietetics students as an adjunct professor for Virginia Tech. Regardless of where my professional career may lead in the future, I look forward to continuing to grow as a dietitian and dedicating my career towards making a difference in the lives of others. |
